Breakfast in Susya

19 November
We had the joy of tasting the first delicious olives and olive oil of the year.
May there be more such joys.
Shortly after we had breakfasted on them, the soldiers came by to threaten the family with arrest.
As part of the continued economic strangulation of Palestinians, the army wants to prevent people accessing their lands. Now, people in Susya may not work in an olive grove surrounded by houses and other plots of agricultural land.
When a human rights activist pointed out to the army officer how aberrant this was, the officer replied "I'm just following orders".
Meanwhile, one of the soldiers in the patrol made monkey faces and vulgar gestures directed at the people anxiously listening to the exchange. Just following orders too, no doubt.
