Fair trade still going, despite war and occupation
I helped out in a delivery of handmade textile products. Makes a change from my years of delivering cheese and chickens!
The aim was to transport handicrafts from a refugee camp in Ramallah to the salespoint in Jerusalem.
In the al Amari camp, the sewing workshop produces tatreez - embroidery.
Unemployment in the camp is high and generation after generation is trapped in a cycle of poverty.
The current situation is all the more dramatic because no Palestinian workers are allowed to work in the 48 territories.

We visited the pretty garden of the East Jerusalem shop. The cute tearoom is no longer in operation, but the place is open, and online shopping keeps the system going.
Check out the website and think of it for your Christmas presents!
